EDGI researchers will analyze DNA collected from 100,000 saliva samples to analyze specific genes associated with eating disorders. Cracking the genetic code will result in the development of new, and more effective, personalized prevention and treatment efforts that will target the underlying biology. But EDGI is more than eating disorders. Comparing EDGI samples with samples from individuals with other mental health issues will also help researchers understand the genetic relationship among eating disorders and commonly co-occurring conditions, such as depression, anxiety disorders, substance use problems, as well as other medical illnesses including metabolic conditions. This will result in greater knowledge, understanding and more informed treatment of mental illness and will help unlock the mysteries and secrets contained not just in the brain, but in our genetic make-up.
We urge you to embrace the endless possibilities in a future filled with renewed hope and recovery! Participate in EDGI, share this page, make a personal video of your own … or just talk with a loved one about EDGI. With your love, with your passion, with your participation, with your help what starts with you will change the world!
